A monolithic rock high above the plain of ancient Corinth, Acrocorinth served for centuries as a fortress commanding the Isthmus of Corinth and controlling land access into the Peloponnese. The site offers wide views over the surrounding region and sits alongside the ruins of ancient Corinth below. Its strategic position made it a repeated last line of defense in southern Greece, with layers of fortification accumulated across many eras.
