Bell-making has defined Agnone for nearly a thousand years: the Marinelli Bell Foundry, founded in 1040 and authorised to display the papal coat of arms, still operates in this pocket-sized Molise town in southern Italy's Isernia province. An unusually high number of historic churches for its size adds to the heritage draw, and the surrounding hill country offers scenic viewpoints and nearby vineyards.
