This compact alpine village in Piedmont's Valsesia valley, Alagna Valsesia sits at the foot of Monte Rosa — the second-highest peak in the Alps — and is internationally known for freeride off-piste skiing. It serves as the traditional starting point for the climb to the Margherita Hut, the highest building in Europe at over 4,500 metres. Originally settled by Walser people in the early 12th century, the village is part of the UNESCO-recognised Sesia Val Grande Geopark.
