Ambato
Ecuador
Known as the "City of Flowers and Fruits," Ambato is a highland Ecuadorian city in the Tungurahua province, set in the Andes at a temperate elevation and crossed by the Ambato river. The centre holds a dense café and restaurant scene alongside historic churches, and the surrounding terrain offers scenic viewpoints toward the mountains. The city was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1949 but rebuilt within two years, and today serves as one of Ecuador's major commercial and agricultural hubs.
