Αιτωλοακαρνανία · Greece
This modest town on the Ambracian Gulf in northwestern Greece, Amfilochia sits on the site of ancient Amfilochia and retains traces of two ancient cities — Amphilochian Argos and Limnaia — within its municipality. Known as Karvasaras under Ottoman rule, a name derived from the Turkish word for caravanserai, the town has a waterfront setting backed by mountains and includes an amphitheatre among its features.
