Angles-sur-lAnglin
Vienne · France
This small village on the Anglin river in the Vienne département, Angles-sur-l'Anglin is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and carries a strong photographic appeal — medieval lanes, centuries-old houses, and an 11th-century ruined castle built for the Bishop of Poitiers rising above a rocky outcrop. The site has been occupied since prehistoric times, evidenced by the Roc-aux-Sorciers cave art. The village is also known for a distinctive needlework tradition called "les jours d'Angles," an openwork textile craft that emerged in the 19th century and found favour with Belle Époque high society.
