Avdella

This high-altitude Aromanian (Vlach) village in the Pindus mountains of Western Macedonia, Avdella is the birthplace of the Manakis brothers and appears in the opening sequence of the film Ulysses' Gaze. A seasonal settlement, it fills with summer visitors while remaining nearly empty through winter, when only a handful of residents stay on.
