Ballsh is the centre of oil production in Albania and home to the country's largest refinery, a working industrial town in Fier County that sits at the transition between the Myzeqe plain and the southern hills. The local football club, KS Bylis Ballsh, competes in the top national league. A branch railway line once connected the town to Fier, though passenger services ended in 2000.
