Bełchatów
Poland
Bełchatów, a town in central Poland's Łódź Voivodeship, is home to the largest coal-fuelled power plant in Europe — a defining presence that shapes the city's identity. Beyond its industrial scale, the compact centre has a concentration of cafés and restaurants. The town also has a following for its volleyball club Skra Bełchatów and its locally made krówki, a traditional Polish candy. City rights were first granted in 1737, lost in 1870, and restored in 1925.
