Iran
Bukan, the largest city in the south of West Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran, developed as an administrative centre during the Qajar era, when the Sardar Aziz Khan Mokri family made it their seat of governance. The city's historic buildings date to that period, with the Sardar Fortress serving as its landmark. Residents are predominantly Kurdish, speaking the Bokani dialect of Sorani Kurdish, and the city sits at a highland elevation with a steppe climate of hot summers and cold winters.
