Catemaco
Mexico
A town on the shores of Lake Catemaco in southern Veracruz, known across Mexico for a pre-colonial tradition of sorcery and witchcraft — practiced largely by men and drawing clients from business and politics alike. Each March, an annual sorcery gathering brings thousands of visitors to the town. The surrounding area retains stretches of tropical rainforest, and the lake itself is a central draw, with mountain terrain rising behind the town.
