Charikar

Charikar, the capital of Afghanistan's Parwan Province, sits at the gateway to the Panjshir Valley where the Shamali plains meet the Hindu Kush foothills, at the confluence of the Ghorband and Panjshir rivers. The city is known for its pottery, high-quality grapes, and a tradition of linen weaving and metalwork. Officially renamed in December 2022 to honor the 8th-century Islamic jurist Abu Hanifa, founder of the Hanafi school of law, it lies on the main road north from Kabul toward Mazar-i-Sharif and Kunduz. The Gol Ghandi hill, established as a public recreation site in 1945, is a local landmark.
