Chiapa de Corzo
Chiapa de Corzo · Mexico
Sitting on the bank of the Grijalva River in the Chiapas highlands, Chiapa de Corzo is a walkable Mexican town with a centre full of cafés and restaurants. Founded in 1528 as the first Spanish city in what is now Chiapas, it also holds one of Mexico's most significant archaeological sites — where researchers have found the earliest known inscribed date, the earliest form of Mesoamerican hieroglyphic writing, and the earliest Mesoamerican tomb burial.
