Claros

This ancient Greek sanctuary on the Ionian coast, Claros was home to a temple and oracle of Apollo — rivaling Delphi and Didyma as a center of prophecy — from at least the 13th century BC until the spread of Christianity in the 4th century AD. The site, in the Menderes district of İzmir Province, also shows evidence of a Cybele cult and hosted the Claria games every fifth year. Sculptures and reliefs uncovered here are displayed at the İzmir Archaeology Museum.
