Curarrehue
Curarrehue · Chile
This tiny town in Chile's Araucanía Region, Curarrehue sits at the water's edge close to the Andes and forms part of the lake-and-mountain development corridor shared with Pucón and Villarrica. Its name derives from the Mapudungun words for "stone altar," and the valley was settled by Mapuche communities pushed through the Mamuil Malal Pass during the 1870s–1880s military campaigns. A tiny central core has cafés and restaurants for visitors passing through the area.
