Diaoyucheng
China
Diaoyu Fortress, a walled stronghold on Diaoyu Mountain in Hechuan District, Chongqing, is known as the site where Song dynasty forces killed the Mongol Great Khan Möngke in 1259 — a battle that halted the Mongol advance into southern China. The fortress sits above the Jialing River and is described as the best-preserved ancient battlefield site in China. Designated a national heritage site in 1996, it is also part of a national scenic area established in 1982.
