Dukan, in the Sulaymaniyah governorate of Iraqi Kurdistan, sits beside the reservoir created by a dam on the Little Zab river — the first dam built in Iraq, completed in 1959. The waterfront setting, backed by mountain terrain, gives the town a modest café and restaurant scene within easy reach of the water's edge.
