This coastal district in western Balıkesir Province on the Aegean Sea, Edremit is known for olive farming and the Kazdağları (Kaz Mountains), which rise visibly inland. The resort towns of Altınoluk and Akçay, both within the district, have made this area one of Turkey's established domestic tourism destinations.
