Entebbe

A lakeside city on the shores of Lake Victoria, a short drive southwest of Kampala, Entebbe has a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants and a calmer pace than the capital. It serves as the site of Entebbe International Airport and State House, the official residence of Uganda's president. The airport gained worldwide attention in 1976 when Israeli forces carried out a hostage rescue operation there. Colonial-era gardens and parks along the lake add to the city's appeal as a stopover.
