Founded on 4 January 1716 and formally named in 1756 as the Pueblo de la Nueva Tlaxcala de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Horcasitas, this large city in Nuevo León sits directly east of Monterrey as part of its metropolitan area. The walkable centre has a solid concentration of cafés and restaurants, and the city lies close to mountain terrain. It is the second-largest city in Nuevo León, with roots in a Tlaxcalan indigenous settlement established before the official founding.
