Hanzhong
Shaanxi Province · China
Hanzhong, a large city in southwest Shaanxi, gave its name to the Han dynasty — China's first imperial golden age and the origin of the name for the country's principal ethnic group — after Liu Bang, the dynasty's founder, was enfeoffed here following the fall of the Qin. Set in the Han River basin between the Qinling and Bashan mountain ranges, the city holds a UNESCO World Heritage site and draws visitors to landmarks including the Wuhou Shrine and Dingjun Mountain.
