This walkable university city in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley, Harrisonburg has a centre dense with cafés, restaurants, and historic churches, shaped in part by the large student populations of James Madison University and Eastern Mennonite University. The city has become one of Virginia's more culturally diverse communities, with over 1,900 refugees settled here since 2002 and residents speaking dozens of languages — a diversity that gave rise to Rosetta Stone, the language-learning software company founded here in 1992.
