Hlybokaye
Belarus
Hlybokaye is a town in Belarus's Vitebsk Region carrying a layered and at times dark history: first recorded in 1514, it later became the site of a Soviet NKVD massacre of thousands of Polish prisoners during World War II, and the Nazi occupation brought the murder of several thousand Jews. Two lakes lie within the town limits, and the Birchwood river originates here. It sits on the historic road between Polotsk and Vilnius.
