Corvey Monastery, founded in 822 with the blessing of Louis the Pious and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 for its near-intact Carolingian westwork, sits within this town on the Weser river in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia. Höxter occupies the heart of the Weser Uplands, with a walkable centre along the left bank of the river offering cafés and restaurants within reach of one of Germany's more significant early medieval sites.
