Small fishing village on the Vatnsnes peninsula in northwest Iceland, Hvammstangi sits directly on Miðfjörður with mountains close by. The harbour supports an active fishery, with shrimp and lumpfish among the main catches. Recognised as a trading post in 1895, the village grew steadily through the 20th century and now serves as the main service centre for the surrounding Húnaþing vestra region.
