Birthplace of multi-Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona, Jocotenango is a town in Guatemala's Sacatepéquez department, set in the Valley of Panchoy just north of Antigua Guatemala. The town preserves the Baile de la Conquista, a dance tradition created by Dominican friars during the colonial era to aid in the conversion of indigenous people, passed down through generations since the 16th century. Its annual patron festival, dedicated to the Virgen de la Asunción, falls on 15 August.
