Once the heart of American glove manufacturing alongside neighboring Gloversville — the two cities together known as the "Glove Cities" — Johnstown is a small city in New York's Fulton County, set in the Mohawk Valley foothills of the Adirondacks. Named after its colonial founder Sir William Johnson, Superintendent of Indian Affairs and a major general in the Seven Years' War, it has a compact central core with cafés, restaurants, and a concentration of historic churches.
