Kale
Denizli · Türkiye
Built over the ancient city of Tabea — a settlement that Alexander the Great passed through and one of the most significant cities on the Caria-Phrygia border — Kale is a compact town in Denizli Province, Turkey. Excavations led by Ege University have uncovered layers of history from Carian marble inscriptions and post-Alexander silver and bronze coins to a Roman bath, Byzantine remains, a Seljuk mosque, and an 18th-century Ottoman mosque. The town sits in a fertile valley with mountains close by and UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
