Atop Pavagadh Hill in Gujarat's Panchmahal District, the Kalika Mata Temple is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas, drawing pilgrims to a summit complex where a Kali Yantra dating to the 10th or 11th century is venerated alongside three goddess images — Mahakali Mata at centre, flanked by Kali and Bahucharamata. The site has roots as an ancient Jain pilgrimage centre, and the idol of Mahakali was originally installed by the Svetambara Jain Achalgacch sect in the 12th century. A ropeway connects the hill base to the summit, and a major fair draws thousands of devotees on Chitra Ashtami each year. The temple sits within the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park.
