Kardamyli
Λακωνία, Μεσσηνία · Greece
A modest waterfront village on the Mani Peninsula in the southern Peloponnese, Kardamyli carries an outsized café and restaurant scene for its size, along with a striking number of churches. Homer names it in the Iliad as one of seven cities Agamemnon offered Achilles. The older quarter features Venetian-built tower houses, an 18th-century Church of Saint Spyridon, and a medieval castle. It serves as a trailhead for paths toward Mount Taygetus and the Viros Gorge, and was the later-life home of writer Patrick Leigh Fermor.
