Founded in the 14th century by Charles IV and built around a cluster of hot springs, Karlovy Vary is Czechia's most visited spa town, set at the confluence of the Ohře and Teplá rivers amid mountain terrain. Its Belle Époque architecture and well-preserved historic centre make it one of the more photogenic towns in the country, and in 2021 it joined the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site "Great Spa Towns of Europe." It also hosts the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, one of Europe's leading film events.
