Ko Panyi
Phangnga · Thailand
A fishing village in Phangnga Province built entirely on stilts over the water by Bugis seafarers who migrated from Indonesia, Ko Panyi is home to descendants of two original Muslim families and sits against dramatic limestone karst terrain. The village is also known for its floating football pitch, built after the 1986 World Cup inspired local youth, whose team became the most successful youth club in southern Thailand in 2011.
