Kozje

Slovenia

This small wine-country settlement in eastern Slovenia's Styria region, Kozje sits close to mountain terrain and water and has been a local centre since at least 1016, when it first appeared in written records. Market rights were granted before 1384. Two historic churches survive in the village: a 15th-century parish church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, with major 17th-century alterations, and a church of Saint Hemma built around 1466 and extended in 1861.
