La Santisima Trinidad

Bolivia

Founded in 1686 by the Jesuit missionary Cipriano Barace as part of the Moxos missions, Trinidad is the capital of Bolivia's Beni department and the main city of the Bolivian Amazon's northern reaches. Connected to the greater Amazon Basin by the Mamoré river, it sits on the edge of rainforest terrain with a pronounced wet and dry season. The city is today a centre for Bolivia's cattle industry and is home to a Bolivian Navy flotilla.
