Lao Bao
Vietnam
Lao Bảo sits on the Sepon River, the natural border between Vietnam and Laos, at the western end of National Route 9 in Quảng Trị Province. Built by French colonial engineers in 1930 to link the Mekong towns to the Vietnamese coast, the route is now part of the East-West Economic Corridor connecting Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. The town is an active border-trade hub, with commerce in timber and goods crossing into Laos, and the jungle-fringed Annamite Range rising nearby.
