Sitting on the Swiss bank of the Rhine directly across from its German twin, Laufenburg (Baden), this small Aargau town was once a single city until Napoleon divided it in the early 19th century — two bridges now reconnect the two halves. The Rhine waterfront, surrounding vineyards, and a well-preserved architectural heritage (recognised with the Wakker Prize in 1985) give the town a strong visual character and a walkable historic centre.
