One of the principal starting points for the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, Le Puy-en-Velay is a heritage-dense town in south-central France's Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, known for its cathedral, its lace-making tradition, the green lentils grown in the surrounding area, and a locally produced verbena liqueur. The walkable centre holds a concentration of historic churches and listed buildings, with scenic viewpoints in the surrounding volcanic landscape.
