Llanfair
TLL32 · United Kingdom
A compact coastal hamlet in Gwynedd's Ardudwy area, Llanfair sits beside Cardigan Bay with views across to the Llŷn Peninsula and the hills of Snowdonia. The 12th-century parish church of St Mair, a listed building restored in the 19th century, contains a 17th-century screen and the gravestone of Welsh writer Ellis Wynne, buried here in 1734. The nearby Chwarel Hen slate quarry, active through the 19th and early 20th centuries, is open to visitors. The surrounding hills hold burial chambers and standing stones.
