Menemen
Izmir · Türkiye
Menemen, a city in İzmir Province on Turkey's Aegean coast, is known across the country for its earthenware pottery, produced here for centuries, as well as for its strawberries and the egg-and-pepper dish that shares its name. The Gediz River crosses the surrounding fertile plain before reaching the sea within the district, and a long stretch of coastline faces the İzmir Gulf. The city also carries the memory of the 1930 Menemen Incident, one of the most significant events of early Republican Turkish history.
