Montecristi
Ecuador
Montecristi, in Ecuador's coastal Manabí province, is best known as the birthplace of Eloy Alfaro — the leader who launched and consolidated Ecuador's liberal revolution — born here on 25 June 1842. The town sits on the slopes of the hill that shares its name, at a low elevation in a dry tropical climate, and serves as a commercial hub closely linked to the nearby cities of Portoviejo and Manta.
