Montluçon

Walkable town on the river Cher in central France's Allier department, Montluçon has a centre with a good spread of cafés and restaurants. The largest commune in Allier, it sits within the historic province of Bourbonnais and was once a fortified frontier town at the meeting point of several medieval territories, including Berry, the Marche, and Auvergne. It is the birthplace of composer André Messager and politician Marx Dormoy, and the town where actress Audrey Tautou grew up.
