This UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, Mỹ Sơn is a cluster of partially ruined Shaiva Hindu temples in central Vietnam, built by the kings of Champa between the 4th and 13th centuries in a mountain-ringed valley. Once home to more than 70 temples and Sanskrit and Cham inscriptions, the complex served as both a royal ceremonial site and a burial ground for Cham royalty. Much of its architecture was destroyed by US bombing during the Vietnam War, though enough survives to make it Vietnam's foremost heritage site of its kind.
