A city in north-central Bangladesh on the Old Brahmaputra River, Mymensingh has a walkable centre with a real café and restaurant scene and is a major educational hub. The city is associated with the Nakshikantha, a traditional embroidered quilt, and the Maimansingha Gitika, a collection of rural ballads. Constituted by the British East India Company in 1787, it draws health tourists from across Bangladesh for its medical facilities and sits a short drive north of Dhaka.
