An Atlantic beach town in Buenos Aires Province, Necochea has drawn summer visitors to its broad sandy beaches since the late 19th century, when the Díaz Vélez family developed the resort area — one of the oldest beach destinations on the Argentine Atlantic coast. The town sits at the mouth of the Quequén Grande River, and the neighbouring Port of Quequén is one of Argentina's most significant grain-export ports, giving the area a dual identity as both seaside resort and working port.
