Nordeste

Little town on the northeastern tip of São Miguel Island in the Azores, Nordeste sits on the Atlantic coast with mountains rising close behind, including Pico da Vara, the highest point on the island. The surrounding area is thick with scenic viewpoints — among them Ponta do Sossego, Ponta da Madrugada, and the Arnel lighthouse — while the Caldeirões natural park and the Serra da Tronqueira add to the range of landscapes within reach. The town itself has a modest centre with cafés and several historic churches.
