Ödemiş district
Izmir · Türkiye
A town in İzmir Province with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants, Ödemiş is also known as Turkey's leading potato-growing region and for its local Ödemiş Kebab. Nearby, the pocket-sized historic town of Birgi — once the capital of the Aydınids — holds Seljuk and Ottoman architecture including Çakırağa Mansion and the Sultanşah Mausoleum, and has been on the tentative UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 2012. The ruins of ancient Hypaepa lie just north of town.
