Orvinio
Rieti · Italy
This small hilltop village in the Rieti province of Lazio, northeast of Rome, is listed among I Borghi più belli d'Italia — Italy's register of its most beautiful villages — and clusters around a castle belonging to the Malvezzi Campeggi family. Despite its size, it holds several historic churches and a handful of cafés and restaurants. The ancient predecessor settlement, Orvinium, was destroyed before the year 1000; the site was later called Canemorto before taking its current name in 1863.
