Paterna
Valencia/València · Spain
Medieval ceramic production, including the distinctive fired tiles known as socarrats, shaped Paterna's early identity, and the town retains a heritage-dense centre on the left bank of the Turia river just northwest of Valencia. An Arab tower, a count's palace, the church of San Pedro, and a set of cave dwellings survive alongside a Ceramics Museum with a strong medieval collection. Each year the Cordà — a fireworks celebration within the Moors and Christians festival, declared a national tourist event in 2017 — draws large crowds to the old centre.
