Pemangkat
Indonesia
Coastal town at the mouth of the Sambas River in West Kalimantan, Pemangkat has a walkable centre with cafés and restaurants and sits directly on the water, with mountain terrain in the surrounds. The town has a long history as a settlement of Chinese gold miners during the Sambas Sultanate era, and its Hakka-majority Chinese community has left a visible mark on local place names and culture alongside the Malay majority.
