Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya · Thailand
The ruins of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, spread across this island town at the confluence of the Chao Phraya and Pa Sak rivers in central Thailand. Between the 14th and 18th centuries, Ayutthaya was one of the world's largest cities and a major centre of diplomacy and trade, before its destruction in the Burmese invasion of 1767. The surviving temples and monuments are walkable from a compact centre with a lively food scene along the riverfront.
